i need a roommate
i didn't realize that finding a roommate would be so difficult, considering that when I was trying to find rooms in san francisco a little over a year ago, it was quite difficult to impress the others who were looking for rooms.

so basically, if you know anybody who is looking for medium sized room in the city who greatly enjoys cooking, let me know. i have a vacant room for $900 a month in a nice place with a top-notch kitchen.

I had somebody take the room yesterday, pay me a deposit and first month's rent, and then decided to flake out on me (and I was nice and decided not to deposit the check).

and on an unrelated note, i don't think that Dreamgirls was robbed. while well done, I don't think it ever had the potential to be great, due to the source material. of course, i'm a finicky fussbudget when it comes to music and generally can't stand much broadway music. and i find most of the music in dreamgirls to be as hammy as your average simpsons faux-musical.

Sorry about your dilemma. I moved twice this autumn and can relate all too well.

thanks.

i liked pan's labyrinth quite a bit.

i'm crossing my fingers that the guy who's coming to visit this evening will be nice and easy going

It was significantly easier to become a new roommate than to find one. Four years later that's probably still the case.

When you need a roommate your options are take the best you find, eat the rent, or move (which you obviously didn't want to do). When you need a place to stay, moving is already a fait accompli but you have lots of location options.

My subjective impressions from then: People who advertise themselves as willing to move in with you tend to be creepy, whereas people who have a room to fill tend to be about like society at large. It should be intuitively obvious why there'd be a reinforcement mechanism here.

My old house mates and I had a "roommate wanted" ad out for several weeks late in 2002. We met two very alarming leads, as well as a couple (our strong preference was an individual) who immediately found something else they liked better anyway.

Then we chose to split and I responded to a bunch of other people's ads and picked a good situation in Concord over many other situations that would have also been good but more expensive.

(Random roommate ad aside: Of the "roommate wanted" ads that I responded to, 100% of the people whose ads didn't specify a gender were female.)
