fantasy employment
I was chatting with my girlfriend and made the following comments:

"i just wish i could turn fantasy baseball into a career
so do hundreds of other men
if not thousands"

to which she replied:

"and women too
jeez
sexist
just joking by the way"

and I proclaimed: "i'd say maybe 99 percent of fantasy baseball players are men"

which truly led us to question what the precise percentage of fantasy baseball teams are run by women. Any thoughts?

Just read "Fantasyland" by Sam Walker, about his experiences in the 2004 Tout Wars league. I think he cited 98%. Well over 90%, anyway.

I still struggle with the concept of fantasy baseball in the first place.

In 2006 I took part in fantasy baseball leagues with 52 unique owners (give or take a couple) of whom at least three were women. But it depends on the level of intensity. As of 2002 the Baseball HQ fall convention had one female attendee (among 200-300), part of a husband-and-wife team that sold stuff.

My best guess is a 95/5 split, maybe slightly less if some on-line "men" are actually women using male screen names to avoid unwanted attention.

I'd guess 90-95 percent of the players in fantasy baseball are men.

Fantasy Football is much more friendly to casual players - there, call it 85-15 (and maybe I'm low with the 15).

Oh, I'm a roto scribe for a living. I like my job, but not always. There's a downside to it, too.
